Joost invites

It seems many people are posting on forum lists or trying to buy on Ebay a Joost invite or a Joost token, personally I decided to think outside the box a little and managed to get one within 3 hours, I did apply to the Beta but was told there was quite a long queue.

So in our forum I offered to tell a few members what I did, and it’s still working!
One of our members received 6 invites! Of course he can only accept one so don’t think that means 5 spare.

YouTube today…Joost tomorrow?

As reported by Business Wire, Joost has been listed in the top 25 start up companies to watch by Business 2.0.

Last year choices such as Digg, Trulia, Technorati, Jotspot, Youtube & Writely have proven to be hugely successful with some of the afformentioned sites being bought by Google.

This year in the video category Joost due for release in the spring gets the nod, with a proven track record in Kazaa and Skype Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom are tipped to have their way with broadcast quality television.

The complete list and descriptions of THE NEXT NET 25 appear in the March issue of Business 2.0 (on newsstands Monday, Feb. 26)

Joost 0.8.0.1 for Mac

The initial Mac version 0.8 of Joost was made available on February 16 but had problems:

“We’re temporarily suspending the download of the Mac OS X client while we fix a rather severe problem in the platform specific section of the code. The Windows version is fine. Apologies for this - but to some extent this is the inevitable result of being on the bleeding edge of a beta.”

Yesterday, Dirk-Willem van Gulik announced on the forum that “we’re back! - we just put up version 0.8.0.1 to replace the broken 0.8.0 MacOSX build of this morning. Apologies for this - but we had some teething problems with our MacOSX build chain. All part of the ‘fun and games’ called a beta.”

Viacom signs with Joost

Viacom has signed a deal with Joost that will see content from MTV, Comedy Central, and CBS distributed on the new P2P distribution service. The move comes just two weeks after YouTube pulled over 100,000 videos offline. ‘Joost’s promise to protect their copyrights was a major factor in Viacom’s decision, and also a stumbling block in their discussions with YouTube/Google. At the moment is it quite easy to download and store video content from YouTube, but no such exploit for Joost is known to exist.’ It’s also a ’secure’ distribution medium in the eyes of many in the entertainment industry, since users can’t upload content themselves.’
