GigaOm giving away Joost invites
GigaOm has 150 Joost invites to give away (along with Babelgum and FON wifi routers).
Get them while they last!
Update: Looks like they have run out of Joost invites.

According to John Dvorak, Joost isn’t worth your time. The reasons he sights include the only content being infomercials for last-gen rock bands and commercials suddenly heard in the background as a background task.
While he has a reason to gripe, we must remember that Joost is still in beta. As a commenter pointed out, despite the very limited content, the ability to test Joost provides a proof of concept. They are just beginning to develop relationships with content providers and quality content will be available once Joost officially launches. The commercials and ads being played in the background is a known bug that will not be released in the final version. Sorry John, but with only one ad being played per hour, on-demand TV, and a great platform - Joost is here to stay.

According to Digital TX, one of the biggest problems Joost faces is in the UK, where many of the top ISPs are already planning on their own video on demand content services. Not only that, ISPs can limit bandwidth on certain applications and many have a 1GB monthly download cap. A movie would take up half the monthly cap. Would the UK ISPs allow Users to use all their bandwidth for a service, like Joost, which would be a direct competition to their own services in the future?

1. It is from the same people that did Skype and Kazaa
2. Community involvement with plugins and skins
3. Endless possibilities - Joost on the TV, on a PDA, smart phone
4. No copyright worries like YouTube
5. Built on successful open standards
6. Have some real heavyweight programmers behind the project
7. They’ve created a great buzz already
8. Plenty of money to support the project
9. People can spend time on their computers and still watch tv
10. It’s free

Robin Raskin from Yahoo! Tech wrote an article entitled “Do you Joost?”
In it, Marty Lafferty, CEO of a volunteer organization in the distributed computing industry says, “The fact that you have access to any TV program you like (of course, we’re talking about TV channels that have agreed to stream their content in the beta version of Joost) is simply amazing.”
